later... as I'm hunting Larry down in the tech guy's cubicle to give him the shoulder strap from a computer bag...
Larry: "Oh, this is great. I was going to try using some cables..."
Cat 5 belt, anyone? Maybe braid a few of them together, different colors. Use a modem as the buckle? I'm sure someone would wear it.

Sounds like it should work just fine. Just don't expect the cat-5 cables to maintain the same data rate or even work after being braided like that.
They don't have to work, it's a fashion statement! Like, just being fabulous.
