A Steve update
Yo! I hope everyone is having a fantastic Friday morning. Those of yall that saw the new Batman movie, congrats you beat me to it! I am sure that everyone is exactly where they belong, which in my case is a real good place. So I told yall Id keep you updated with my school status and CSUN info in general. Considering that you guys are the only friends I have that really care I really hope you dont mind me occasionally filling you in with random school updates. The truth is Ive never been so excited to be going to school in all my life. So heres the latest update....
I got into every class that I wanted! Although for some reason they are not offering the math class that I needed this semester, which is a bet of a setback for my plans, but it shouldnt effect anything as long as I get it taken care of before I graduate in 2010. So instead guess what I decided to do? You guessed right gentle souls, I pretty much went English crazy!!! Yay!!!! Sorry, the English dork in me couldnt contain myself. I enrolled in Shakespeare, Creative Writing basics, Popular Culture and American Fiction, Short Story construction, and a random Astronomy lab that I needed to pick up. Im so excited to be taking classes again in my true passion, English, more specifically, writing! Ohh I cant wait to read through all my favorite Shakespeare plays and poems, it should serve as great inspiration for my own poetry. Not to mention the short story course, that should be awesome (considering that Im currently working on a short story)! That is of course assuming that I have good professors, but Im choosing to be optimistic on this issue. For one Ive had great English professors at the community college level (mostly Vista) so Im assuming that the English dept over at CSUN has to be at least the same in terms of quality, and most likely, they should be even better. CSUN is known for its Humanities so I have no doubt that I shall be grilled thoroughly by these guys. I cant wait!
In addition I was awarded enough Financial Aid to cover the entire cost of my first year! Yay!!!!! Sugoi!!!! Mexico is still on baby!!! If not I would have tapped into my savings, but since I got the grant now I foresee pyramids in 09 foso! Im really happy that everything seems to be unfolding exactly as I imagined it would, which hasnt always been the case in my life, I guess it just took the right timing, and motivation. For me school is more than just the education I get out of it, its about the knowledge that Ill be able to share with others once Im done, and I think that more than anything has enabled me to have such fantastic school "luck" as of late. Thanks for all the support and advice over the years, I think I finally got a handle on the school aspect of life and its in large part to the never ending support of my fellow scholar gamers. Here's to the future, to the circle that never begins, and never ends.

hell at the gates of Flagship...
Hmmm...where to begin. Firstly, I'm glad I didn't apply to that job posting at Flagship. Or I'd be out a job this week. I'm also glad I didn't get that lifetime subscription. Sadly, I had (still have) a lot of love for those Flagship blokes because what I recall hearing on podcasts and reading in interviews, they really wanted to pull together a good experience for the player.
So here's how it's all gone down. Beginning July, a higher up at Flagship went on record saying they rushed Hellgate. It was obvious that not all was right on the ship. So it didn't help when a developer posted on his blog staffers were being nixed left and right at Flagship.
Then, over the weekend news hit the street that Flagship was closing it's doors and the Hellgate and Mythos IP would go under the control of Hanbitsoft. The site that dropped the news claimed this info came from Hanbitsoft itself. Apparently Hanbitsoft co-own the Hellgate IP with Flagship...but there was no official word from Flagship itself.
Needless to say, a shitstorm ensued. The Hellgate forums went wild, over 11,000 responses over the course of four days! The Mythos forums became a somber somber place, with many different threads reflecting the worry of a community that had started to feel as much a part of the games growth as the developers themselves.
Finally, yesterday, Flagship released a statement with very mixed ramifications. They said that Flagship is still open. They're firing most of their staff. And that Hanbitsoft is full of shit, they own the Hellgate and Mythos IP.
Then, today, Hanbitsoft went on record claiming that Flagship is full of a bunch of bitches that don't know a good offer when they see one. Hanbitsoft claims to have tried making a deal with Flagship to help them with their financial woes. And are now seeking legal action to aquire the Hellgate IP.
Mommy and Daddy are fighting. The community is torn, some people want to see Hellgate get continued support while others have sworn undying loyalty to Flagship and would rather see Hellgate die than in the hands of Hanbitsoft.
The future of Mythos is still in question, with most of the community accepting that their game will probably just be locked away in a code basement. Many are asking for the code to go open source so people can run the game in it's current state on their own machines and servers.
I haven't touched Hellgate for some time so it's easy for me to side with those loyal to Flagship as I hope the best for the Flagship heads and I just don't like how Hanbitsoft released info to the community early. It's almost like they sucker punched Flagship.
I'm very sad for Mythos. The real irony is that the demise of Mythos doesn't hit so hard because of the Diablo 3 announcement. I was amazed at just how much Diablo 3 looks like a well polished Mythos. Even in its early stage of development.
Anyways, there's the breakdown of events...the cup community has spent some time in the Hellgate universe so I'm curious to hear what you all think.
Ron, did I behave myself last night? I only remember sitting down (not sure if it was the couch or the floor) and I woke up sprawled on the couch with a blanket over me. My body kind of upset...but I had a good time.

Time For Some Campaignin'
I used to love jibjab videos back in the day, I haven't stayed up with them though. Just saw this one through Crooks and Liars and was pretty impressed with the animation quality. They've come a long way since Bubba's Brownies.
A preview, of sorts
(I noticed I haven't posted anything in a while, so here is a contribution from Sydonia, a small nation known for its marmots and provision of aid to Steveland and Ronstralia. This is the beginning of a 50 or so page thing that is intended to be the first segment of a novel type thing, so odds are, some parts may not be entirely clear. Some of that will be filled in later, some of that will be me not being a professional writer. Sooner or later the whole thing will be up on my website, in case anyone wants to check out the rest.)

Revolution - The Book of Jay
The night felt thick and heavy, like some obese hairy monster perched on my shoulders, slouching me further and further over the desk as the hours wore on. I should have left the overhead light on, but how could I have known that the bulb in my desk lamp would choose this night to give a final desperate flicker and die in a minute, crackly blaze of glory? Stupid light bulb, taking the easy way out and leaving me with nothing but the somehow lighter darkness of the black computer screen and its miniature army of white type to fend off the night.

Higher Ground
As some of you may know I recently saw Stevie Wonder in concert at the Hollywood Bowl. The experience far surpassed any expectations that I had in terms of sound quality, set list, and positive energy. It was in fact one of the best concerts that I have ever gone to in my short life. The song that really stuck out that night for my father and I was Higher Ground. As we were leaving my dad told me that Higher Ground was his favorite song of the night and that Stevie really gave it his all during that particular portion of the show. Than my dad mentioned to me that he really liked the lyrics because they were about reincarnation. I replied, "they are?" I had heard them a million times growing up and a million more times with the Red Hot Chili Peppers (yes Stevie wrote it first!) cover that received a lot of play on KROQ, but I never fully understood the meaning. Not quite sure why when it seems to be fairly clear what Stevie intended. After taking a closer look I couldnt help but notice that the lyrics from the song completely reflect much of the spiritual beliefs that I have developed over a period of time. In addition, I couldnt help but laugh that the most spiritually relevant songs Ive ever had the pleasure of hearing also happens to be one of the "funkiest" jams ever written. Nice job Stevie. I thought Id share the connection with yall along with a video performance from 1973 that I found on YouTube. Enjoy!

People keep on learnin'
Soldiers keep on warrin'
World keep on turnin'
Cause it won't be too long
Powers keep on lyin'
While your people keep on dyin'
World keep on turnin'
Cause it won't be too long
I'm so darn glad he let me try it again
Cause my last time on earth I lived a whole world of sin
I'm so glad that I know more than I knew then
Gonna keep on tryin'
Till I reach the highest ground
Teachers keep on teachin'
Preachers keep on preachin'
World keep on turnin'
Cause it won't be too long
Oh no
Lovers keep on lovin'
Believers keep on believin'
Sleepers just stop sleepin'
Cause it won't be too long
Oh no
I'm so glad that he let me try it again
Cause my last time on earth I lived a whole world of sin
I'm so glad that I know more than I knew then
Gonna keep on tryin'
Till I reach my highest ground...Whew!
Till I reach my highest ground
No one's gonna bring me down
Oh no
Till I reach my highest ground
Don't you let nobody bring you down (they'll sho 'nuff try)
God is gonna show you higher ground
He's the only friend you have around

Fallout 3, ZOMFG!
I played maybe 20 minutes of Fallout. I like it. Unfortunately, it was while at my uncles house and by the time I had a computer sturdy enough to handle it....well, I had moved on. The same could be said for fallout 2. Regardless, I loved the premise. Add to that the fact that I LOVED Oblivion. Sure, I didn't play too much of it. But I definitely wasted plenty of time jacking around the large environment.
Finally, we have the first in-game footage for fallout 3 by Bethesda:
Vids comes compliments of RPS. The author of the story makes a good point...it kind of seems like Oblivion with guns. Judging by the tone that comes off as a bad thing to him. But honestly, that same thought ran through my head and I thought, YES! Oblivion with guns!
So I guess it's subjective...

Im baaaccck!!!
Thanks to the good efforts of Lorigga I am back in action. The dildo is dead. He will strike this house never again. He may be resurrected elsewhere by evil incantations but for now he is dormant and I say brigade members celebrate! WoW anyone?
(p.s. it was really just the cable, it seems your guess was right Cy)
In addition. Ive been having serious Zone Alarm issues so I uninstalled it. I recently went to download it and it seems its only for pay now....perhaps thats why I my version was having issues.....do any of you Windows users have any suggestions for free firewalls? My computer would benefit from having something I am sure. For now I am off to play FF7. Peace
