Man and Fire or Gary's Great Adventure

A journey

Photobucket

So it begins.

Photobucket

This isnt so bad at all. So far......

Photobucket

He tells me this acts as a marker. This is the boundary to the path. Past here its different.

Photobucket

Yes. Yes. Mushroom Hill. I remember you. Another day. Another trip. An eighth of mushrooms. We tried to fly from this hill. Fly past the blue sky and into the infinite. But thats another tale......

Photobucket

The water is back.

Photobucket

A friend named Moose once refused to go past this point. Cant say I blame him....but this journey is Gary's and for Gary this is just the beginning.

Photobucket

Uhmm ya so Gary....how did this car get back into this canyon. Oh right I guess they must have taken the bodies. ....

Photobucket

Further down the rabbit hole.

Photobucket

The first rope. Lets see you go first.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Wait Im supposed to do this next?

Photobucket

Not so bad. So far. I think if I fell from that its only 15 feet or so.

Photobucket

Around the first bend.

Photobucket

Wait whats that up there?

Photobucket

Ohh I see. Maybe they made it out alive. It is wedged in between the mountains. Perhaps they climbed out.

Photobucket

Uhmm toxic waste now?

Photobucket

Ok its awesome that you can float in mid air but how am I supposed to get up this Gary?

Photobucket

The canyon.

Photobucket

Ok now show me that floating trick....wait Im supposed to climb this?

Photobucket

Really though? Climb this? Where will I plant my feet? I guess thats why we call this spot Jackie Chan.

Photobucket

Up and over and now where climbing on logs? Frodo give me strength.

Ohh thats right just past this log is that evil tree that we have to use to climb up the side of a vertical cliff. Yay! You first again Gary.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Ok no prob.

Photobucket

Wait. What?

Photobucket

Damn I just did it. Its been a while since Ive climbed up that.

Just one more peek

Photobucket

At least 30 ft. No joke anymore. (was it ever?)

Photobucket

Approaching the first "chill" spot. Can you see the face in the canyon rock?

Photobucket

Ahh chillin. Cant we just stay here?

Photobucket

Never mind. I forgot about that. "They" could be watching. Best to keep moving.

Photobucket

No prob just throw down the rope. Wait...there is none for this spot?

Photobucket

Wonderful...now how do I get down?

Photobucket

Never fear were very close to the end now. I recognize these crude markers. Do you? Hmmn LSD what could it mean....(as if we weren't here when it was written)

Photobucket

WoW! So this is it ehh. The second "chill" spot. Nice real nice. What shall we do?

Photobucket

Photobucket

Man and Fire.

Hehe sounds like a great adventure. Thanks for the play by play. No attack marmots for you. Any ticks this time?

I recognize the first third of the trip. I'd post some of the old pics from our trip but they just aren't the same.

It looks much different when most the oak and other weeds are dormant from winter or chopped down from Gary's machete (hes cleared so much in the last weeks its amazing.)

damn I wish you could edit comments. Oh well. Anywayz, I just wanted to add that I hoped with these pictures to satisfy all your questions Moose in regards to "where are we aiming towards". These spots, especially the 2 chill spots, where my motivation in walking back there. I didnt realize how much more difficult it is during summer but I can now finally prove that at least I knew where I was going. What got to see the first rope and thats call but honestly the path doesnt really get fun until just after the first rope and on the way to the second and third ropes. At that point the canyon becomes much more narrow and the path becomes much more intense, but also more focused, and more rewarding. Cant say I blame Moose for not even trying to get to the first ropes though. Its not like a single one of those climbs is easy, and if your not going to do a few whats the point of even climbing one?

"if your not going to do a few whats the point of even climbing one?"

^pretty much lol. my thought though was "if i'm not gonna climb the rope what's the point of going over and looking at it?"

ya i don't like heights in general so hanging from a rope or climbing up a cliff Jackie Chan style is pretty much out of the question for me. Especially after what we had to trudge through to get to where I sat down. Gary must love these pics, you got some pretty good ones of him.

Hence the name Gary's great adventure. Ya brother Im glad that I went recently with Gary. It kicked my ass but I also was able to remember how difficult the process really is and I doubt I would take anyone back there at all unless they already had some basic rope experience. I got to be honest this place was my basic ropes training! But damn Im crazy yo and lucky to be alive!

oh and for the record no ticks!
