Hey all, how are things? Life treating you well? I'm here in my batcave writing me a program to blink some LEDs...sure, it's not fabulous, but still kind of amazing in and of itself.
Anyways, been keeping up with my gaming news and one in particular has come under my radar...
LEFT 4 DEAD
It's quite simple, you're one of four people who find themselves in a zombie apocalypse! I believe there are a series of four missions with different objectives in which you have to consistently beat the onrush of zombies.
Things become more hectic in that there exists this somewhat enigmatic figure called "The Director" which I'm not quite sure weather or not has an in game avatar...or if it's just an AI. Regardless, it dictates when / where the zombie rush will come and seems to know the right time to hit you and quite unexpectidely.
To add to the craziness, there are four types of "boss" zombies, which are playable in a 4 vs. 4 match where teams take turns playing as survivors or infected. Even while playing only as survivors these badies come up. Apparently, the infected act as griefers, dashing the hopes and dreams of the survivors. For example, when all is quiet and you've strayed a little to the left of your team, BAM! you get pounced on by "the Hunter."
Here's the intro clip:
If any are interested, the demo is up on steam.
I've been following the game via Rock, Paper, Shotgun (RPS). Here are some articles that really perked my interest in the game:
Walkthrough of the Left 4 Dead Dead Air campaign.
A narrative of the RPS team's adventures in versus mode.
Some first impressions of the game.
I'm planning on trying the demo out first, because I don't know if my hardware will take much of a liking to a zombie apocalypse. Luckily, the game is developed using the source engine which as we all know, works fairly well on some older hardware. Now let's see if def was able to download it, LOL!

The download finally finished. It took almost 12 hours! I'm guessing because of the high volume of traffic all trying to get the demo. Dan suggested going the torrent route, but at that point i had already gotten about 80% of it so i took the long painful way hehe. I played through the demo twice with 3 other real people and i gotta say that it was pretty damn fun! I'm not sure that it would be worth the 45 or 50 bones it's going for atm but if they come out with a Green Box or something bundling it with HL ep3 and peggle or some other stuff i'm all over it fo sho! Having said that everyone should get this demo ASAP so we can try play together. the demo lasts for 6.4 days or so and after the dl madness i only have like 5.9 days left as of this comment at 2am. So that should at least cover this weekend. Imagine RE4 but faster in pace and with 4player coop... sounds like fun no? GOGOGOGO!
And apparently if you get the game there's a multiplayer mode where one person is in charge of the zombie swarm and the music/sound effects. sounds cool as hell to me but as i haven't seen it due to the limited nature of the demo, i can only imagine. why are you still reading this!? GOGOGOGO!
Downloaded the demo in about one and a half hours! Well, my comp runs it okay, I can definitely play so I'd love to try getting a round of the demo in this evening. I feel you on the "I don't know about $44 bones." On the one hand, it seems like they've put a lot into the content to say it stands as it's own game...but yeah, then again it could have been part of a bundle. Doesn't seem like much more than TF2...hmmm....
