Ambassadors of light
We all still fight the fight
To represent what’s right
The word of Jesus Christ
But there’s been more than one
To represent the Sun
In fact it’s just more fun
That how His will be done
So many ways to say it
That’s how we were created
The old ways are now dated
Some Christians just love Satan
He warned that this would happen
Don’t let yourself get trapped in
Instead be your own captain
And trust your heart to see

this poem is about bigotry to me. some Christians (if not most that Ive meet) just really dont get it.
be your own captain... of your own ship? hehe sorry had to. entirely agreed on the sentiment, it's really too bad that so many people either don't seem to be able to tell the difference between right and wrong or no longer care. I see what you did there with the breaking out of the rhyme scheme at the end and not getting "trapped".
captain...hmm, I wonder why you chose to use the imagery of a captain and his ship to represent a person manning their viewpoints. Was there a very specific conscious decision? Or did it just make sense to you?
If it just made sense to you, I would wonder what your choice of metaphors would indicate about how you view expression of spirituality.
And by all means, I love the metaphor, just kind of thinking about it. I don't want to convey a sense of criticism I just want to reflect on the piece as part of a work generated by a human being. Does that make sense?
It was a very specific conscious decision, but with that being said I wrote the poem in under 10 minutes. So of course, a part of me has to be tapped into what some would call unconscious, or what I would refer to as a super-conscious state of mind. So of course the images, although specifically chosen by me for effect (I can almost visualize people flying spaceships around the galaxy searching for their own sense of "God" or "whats right") but the images are also ingrained upon my core being by now, because Im so passionate about words, and poetry, I feel that the images I use "are me", if that makes any sense. Thus, Captain, like how I want to own a sail boat, or how Ive always loved the idea of flying planes, or space ships. And light, Christ, Sun, Satan, these are all images that constantly repeat themselves in my work, and of course they are images in my own daily life that consume and dominate the forefront of my thinking. Not so much Satan, but there was a time for that....these days its mostly light and love (and women) that I ponder. As for the bigotry aspect, or the fact that there are many ways to "see the truth", Im just very proud of myself that I have come to a point with my understanding of Christ and his message that I no longer need believe that all followers "at least have some good in them, or good intentions" when Christ himself taught otherwise. One of my favorite passages of his is that in the end there will be many that call out his name in Heaven, but he will say, "I knew you not, fore you knew me not" But master, they will reply, we spoke of you every day, and Jesus will say "yes but you knew me not, because you knew not the poor and destitute that I sent before you to nourish, this was I, and yet , you knew me not"
