Bay Turkey Roundup

What's up people? The cup has been rather quiet from all our traveling, holidays, birthdays and such. Hopefully it'll pick up again this week. For now I'll give you all the bay update. We're back in Berkeley after our trip to Sebastopol. Sydny and her Dad were able to build my concept for a doorway thing for the top of the stairs, so Edward will be back at our place sooner than we expected, which is cool.

I beat both Half Life 2 and HL2 Ep1 this past week and I'm a little bit into HL2 Ep2. I really liked the part where you get to control the giant crane and can drop shipping containers on the bad guys. Overall the games were pretty enjoyable, but there were a couple parts that were extremely frustrating/annoying and the plot was lacking. Both games end with explosions and leave you having no idea wtf is going on. That's pretty poor storytelling if you ask me. Still good stuff though.

Hit up some cool weekend deals from amazon via cheapassgamer. Me and Syd picked up copies of the new WoW expansion since it was so damn cheap ($26 from regular price of $40). We also picked up copies of Warhammer Online to check it out ($11 from regular price of $50). The WoW expansion price is still the same today if anyone wants to pick it up, but Warhammer is $20 today though. There's some other cool deals too, like Guild Wars for $10. Dan what did you pick up?

Syd's parents picked us up a tv converter box and I am pretty impressed. We got a buttload of channels now and they all come in crystal clear. I'm curious how long the digital signal has been available. Anyone have any idea? As some of the channels claimed hd programing the idea of hi-speed internet over white spaces seems much closer to reality.

Hope everyone had a great time this holiday weekend. Anyone down for some WoW tonight?

glad we spoke, WoW should be fun, congrats on beating HL2!! I always wanted to beat it and never sat down with it long enough. Perhaps I should play right now...

I just picked up the expansion and a ds game for the girly. Bunch of deals if you feel like spending money I was tempted by Guitar Hero 3 with guitar for $50 but i haven't been playing GH2 that I picked up so i can't really justify it yet.

so what's up with this "doorway thingy"? Congrats on HL2 goodness.I bought so many games that I haven't played even one hour of that I'm finally not buying them!

I will admit though, last week I found myself digging Square's "My Life as a King" on WiiWare. Scary enough, I'm left thinking to myself "what was I thinking!"

you bought that game too!!! Yeah!!! Im not the only one! I love it! But do not buy the extra content!!! It was soo not worth it. (yes I am square's douche)

So the game itself is actually fun? About how many hours would you say to beat the game?

please please dont buy the extra content it just encourages square to be douchebags and sell games in pieces. (bad Steve! No! hehe)

Actually I think for me this was like three weeks ago. I think when I stopped I was one dungeon away from beating the game...I think I spent around ten or so hours playing. I just had that desire to loose myself in a game, which I hadn't had for some time.

I did buy some of the add-on content. Sorry guys. I bought two of the race's and one outfit.

One of the things that got really repetitive for me was the obligation to chat with the town people. Sure, this may stem from my disregard for lesser people in general (kidding), but yeah, one of the intersting and limiting game mechanics is the fact that you can use a "morale orb" to make yourself shine for a time. While you have stars sprinkling all over you, you can engage in dialog with town people and "increase their family bonds." Make the people happy enough and they leave their house lights on longer and you then have longer days so you can get more done.

The mechanic was very interesting at first, but managed to loose it's appeal once the dialog boxes started getting ridiculously repetitive.

I also hated having to depend on my troops to fell monsters and clear dungeons in order to expand my empire. There would be days where none of them would accomplish the objectives I set for them and in order to expand I needed them to finish that dungeon! Granted, I did finally learn it was a dumb idea to send the white mages out by themselves...so it was hell when they kept failing at finishing the dungeon that would in turn give me the Tavern+ building so I could form parties...

But at the end of the day, there were instances where I questioned their abilities. If only I could reprimand them...

I also felt there could have been more story elements. Not only in my day to day dealings with the town people, but with my town advisers and the main plot all together.

I would have also liked it if I could differentiate my adventurers more. Or if their models could reflect the fact that they had different level armor...armor I worked bargaining with the armor smith to make!

And last but not least, I hated being that little blond kid....that's just a physical body type I have no way of relating to...
