Looks like Blizzard have announced the third class in Diablo III, the Wizard. Seems to be a mashup of the Sorceress and....well, I'm not quite sure what else, Assassin maybe? Judging from the video the wizard seems a LOT more badass than the sorceress ever did. First check out the Wizard trailer at Kotaku, then have a peek at the youtube vid below:
[Edit: was able to find an embeddable Wizard trailer]
[Here's some gameplay footage]
Looking at the trailer...I can't help but form an opinion clouded by all those people out there criticizing the art direction. The more stylized look is new...BUT I will say, I like the direction the gameplay seems to be going! These classes just look sick. And I guess the gameplay is what's most important in the end. Besides, will Lorigga actually play this one? Seeing as how he managed to get through the first two...and has waited many a year for this...he hopes to make that time...but we shall see.

New vid released demonstrating more Wizard abilities
Well, blink was an assassin ability. And that forcefield one...that's new. As well as the deathray!
Nice spin on the mage/caster class for hack 'n slash...not that I'm some authority on the matter. In fact, I have the least authority about games these days considering how much I play them. Guess I'm almost ready to study them in an academic environment where I think about games and manage not to play them. =P

I have mixed feeling from what I see. I do like the game play. It looks fresh, and fast. It definitely is a nod to the old hack and slash, with mass amounts of creatures being womped on with ease. However, I had not seen any other footage of the game before this, and man the art direction is shocking. Its so fucking bright and colorful?! I dunno, I miss the dark grit of the originals. Everything so shiny and polished? Why because we all have better graphics cards these days? There better be some sick ass gore to make up for the loss of the rough environments or I wont be playing shit. Just cause it says Diablo on it doesnt make it Hell, and if it aint Hell, Im not in.
oh and why did they feel the need to change the name from Sorceress to Wizard?
Oh man you guys should check out the new Diablo 3 logo!

I love ponies! OMG!
I've watched pretty much all the diablo 3 vids and though they seem to be using a full pallete of colors it doesn't really look bright to me. The gameplay looks sick as hell and as for gore I saw quite a few huge piles of blood and green goo around the corpses. Watching the barbarian cut through swathes of critters actually made the tank class look fun and you all know tank is not really my thang. But we won't know if it's fun or not until we play it. Personally I'm looking forward to checking it out. we'll know next year unless they lied about it coming out before starcraft 2. that's some shit to be pissed about right there. we gotta buy sc2 3 fucking times!? blizzard be tripping balls right there. a more blatant promotion of piracy i have not seen.
As far as the art direction, I think what's really missing is the sense of realism. Sure, Diablo didn't have a "real" look, but it was obvious the designers were shooting for that when they made the game. That's why Hellgate seemed like a good shot at the "spiritual predecessor" to diablo, in my mind. It had a realistic look which helped create a "hellish" atmosphere.
Part of why warcraft looks so good was the decision to stylize it. It works for that universe. It's obvious thats what Blizzard is doing to Diablo.I think all the bright colors are just part of that effort to stylize the game.
That being said, I'm excited for it in terms of a game all by itself. I like that it will continue the Diablo lore and it seems to really propel the hack 'n slash genre forward.
I'm hoping the wizard is different enough from the sorceress to make the player see the difference.
I guess we'll have to wait and see how it all pans out.
That shirt rocks!
Starcraft being broken up, hey, as long as there's no monthly cost and the game has enough content to feel like each campaign is standalone, then I'm on board. I don't think just because it's all under the same title doesn't mean they owe me all three for the cost of one. The way Blizzard is talking about it, this content will be released over the next few years. They're just "fleshing out" the zerg and protoss campaigns. I'm not that patient.
I guess I feel we'll have to wait and see for both of these games. Obviously Blizzard feel they're making good choices, they are VERY big these days too...will they maintain that legacy?
there messing with my babies man!
