Everybody alive out there? There hasn't been much cup activity as of late. I know I haven't been terribly functional, for no apparent reason. Maybe I've got my cosmic period now, Lorigga will have to check for me. How are work/school/stuff going? At least grunt or something, or I'll have to get the stick.
It's the coyote Defmoose chased. He's learned how to ride the BART!
And now for your consideration, the first cut at a menu for Yosemite:
Dinner 1:
Taco / burrito thingies, featuring:
Chicken, refried beans, black beans, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, hopefully avocado (could do fake meat too)
Raw veggies of various forms
Dinner 2:
Cheeseburgers / veggie burgers
Green beans
Dinner 3:
Hot dogs / veggie dogs (does Morning Star or someone make these or get some from Top Dog)
Pork and beans or similar concoction
and / or Corn (canned, unless there is decent looking fresh corn and we want to try to cook it on the fire grate)
Breakfast
Poptarts / breakfast bars / Powerbars would make things a lot easier unless people really want cereal
Eggs and potatoes (breakfast burrito type things) for the morning after
Lunch
Apples, whatever other fruit looks decent
Granola bars
Snack type stuff
Chips, cookies, maybe stuff to make smores?
Gatorade, soda, beer?
It would actually be a lot easier for me to just deal with all of the big stuff, but I don’t really have any good ideas for snack type stuff or drinks, so I’d appreciate it if someone else could deal with that or come up with a list of requests. I have access to one big ice chest, but we probably need two since we're feeding six people. Also, how is the tent situation? I borrowed my dad's big tent, so we can do 3 and 3, or 2 and 4 with the tents I have if people are happy with that. Otherwise someone else is going to need to come up with some tentage. Yosemite is in 3 weeks, yay!

I have my own tent (should fit three...but really fits two) and ice chest (medium size/big)
I can bring trail mix, fig bars, dried mango, and some other stuff from Monterey Market. All that crap along the wall makes for excellent treats.
beyond that, don't worry about me too much. I'll try add my own veggie centric stuff to your menu (I see you're trying but I got dietary needs). Stuff that I can integrate into what you have worked out. I'll have to think about it more though...I'll definitely tell you what I comes to mind.
One example, avocado for sandwiches. cause a cheese, mustard, lettuce sandwich just doesn't work.
Id also be down to cook eggs and potatoes one or two mornings because I can't operate through the day on pop tarts/ power bars. In fact, that stuff really jacks up my sensitive teeth. Perhaps I can think of an alternative. Pancakes? Oh! I got it, yogurt and granola! that I can jive with. Or maybe oatmeal! I can totally do oatmeal w/ a little bit of fruit. Just make a big vat of it no problem.
Perhaps I can bring a couple of extra potatoes, foil, and swiss cheese, for a baked potato or two for dinners...
Good to hear there's another ice chest in the bay area. I figured you'd have to feed yourself to some degree since I don't really know what to feed you. Good call on yogurt, I didn't think of that at all (even though I eat it all the time... /sigh.. I miss my brain cells, I wonder where they went). If Crow can come up with a two person tent, I guess we should do that, your tent, and my smaller tent. As far as I remember there is a fair amount of ground space at this site.
I also have access to a tent (4 people) if the need arises. The menu sounds wonderful except for the green beans in dinner #2. but I can always live without if I have too. Do we need stoves camp proof utensils or anything? Shovels... I've never been with you all so I'm not sure how hardcore camping we're going. But odds are I've got a crappy rusty whatever we need.
I don't think we've ever needed a shovel. Unless you just want to dig holes or something, and the park service might frown upon that. This isn't hardcore camping, this is drive up, put up your tent, walk 200 feet to the bathroom with flush toilets.
What vegetables do you eat? The green beans was an attempt to not have carrots, which I know you don't like. I don't think we need another big tent at this point.
I think Steve said he could borrow his dad's stove (maybe I'm making things up, not sure) and if not, I have one that will work. I just got some new camping cookware (2 pots, 2 pans/lids) and we tend to use paper plates (I think we've done plastic utensils in the past too) because nobody wants to do the dishes, but I've got an old set of real utensils that I don't like lying around if we want to use those.
ps - I call dibs on parking at the campsite... not quite sure what to do with the extra car... might be able to leave it at curry village. Unless my dad actually lets me borrow his SUV and all of us Berkeleyish people can go together, but that isn't really sounding like an option at this point.
well I hope to park at camp site but I guess if someone beats me thats that. I will bring my tent. It can hold 4, 3 comfortably, 4s fine by me Im not shy. I will bring my Dads stove and lantern. I have my own sleeping bag. I will bring an ice chest though we should all conference about that because the bear box can only hold so many (Im guessing 2) and having more ice chests than we can fit in bear box would be a very big problem. Im just thinking it would be good for me to bring one because Im coming from down south with random food and drinks vs yall who can come together a few days before and pack food in same car. whatever happens we just need to communicate.
in addition the menu sounds great, if you get groceries please let me know how much it comes out to Id be more than happy to contribute, in addition Im bringing beer and soda, and other snacks, plus tons of firewood. Anything else anyone wants or needs of me please just feel free to ask.
Well, tent-wise, I'd say 3 in my dad's 4 person and 3 in Steve's 4 person would probably be the most comfortable / space efficient way to do it.
The reservation page said something about two tents anyway, and I wasn't sure if they were only guaranteeing that the site would fit two or if we were only supposed to have two, but whatever. (I'll probably leave my other tent in the car just in case there's room at the site for 3 big ones and we can have camping mansions oooo) I'll tent with anybody as long as I have the right to poke them if they snore too much. (/readies poking device)
A big ice chest coming from LA would be fine, but I think it may need to be mostly ice so that we can redistribute once we get to the site. I'm nearly positive the bear box will only hold two.
If there are ideas for specific snacks, how about we start a list over by the polls, and put your name by the snack if you're planning to provide it. I'll deal with major meal ingredients, so don't worry about those. And if it won't all fit in the bear box, we'll just have to have a big feast the first night. oh noes... tastey food...
sounds good to me, I was planning on bringing my ice chest mostly filled with just ice and drinks, perfectly available for food transferring.
